2007 Player Rankings for Week 17

by Simon McGrother
June 20, 2007

The form book proved a useful guide to week 16 but might be a little less trustworthy in week 17 as locked in teams preserve their star players and bum-bowl-bound outfits try to poke contenders in the eye. Biggest game of week 17 has to be Columbus' visit to New York - winner goes to the show, loser starts their off-season at the final whistle. Utah's abysmal second half to the season looks likely to cost them as they face a nasty matchup at LA, while rivals Nashville host the lowly Rampage. Most likely big hitter from a fantasy [erspective would be New Orleans at Georgia, San Jose at Las Vegas and just maybe Austin at Tampa Bay.

  1. Chris Griesen, Georgia
  2. Clint Dolezel, Dallas
  3. Mark Grieb, San Jose
  4. Joe Germaine, Utah
  5. Matt D'Orazio, Chicago
  6. Brett Dietz, Tampa Bay
  7. John Dutton, Colorado
  8. Steve Bellisari, New Orleans
  9. Shane Stafford, Orlando
  10. Sonny Cumbie, Los Angeles
  11. Lang Campbell, Austin

  22. Chris Sanders, Arizona (BYE)
  23. Jeff Smoker, Nashville
  24. Andy Kelly, New Orleans
  25. Brian Jones, Las Vegas
  26. Juston Wood, Philadelphia

Kudos to Chris Griesen who emerged from Clint Dolezel's shadow to break Clint's single season TD record with a week to spare. A much rarer shout out to Matt Nagy, who threw 7 TDs in the defeat to the Soul, he'll need to do the same again, and avoid the 2 interceptions if the Destroyers are to make the playoffs. Tony Graziani capped a topsy turvey season with a solid 280yds and 7 scores to guide the Soul into the post-season. Mark Grieb added another 6TDs to his fine season and a promising start for Matt Kohn at Nashville throwing 5TDs on his debut. Rohan Davey was awful for the Dragons, and must find form right now if he is not to end New York's season. Fantasy owners take note: Dallas sat Clint Dolezel when the game was in the bag, and playoff locks are going to look to protect their prize assets.

Another terrific week for Larry Brackins who now has 9 in the last two weeks and will be a critical part of the Soul's post-season. David Saunders returned from injury to grab 3 scores for the Destroyers in a losing effort against the Soul - but with Columbus needing a win in New York to grab the last play-off spot David is sure to be prominent in week 17. CJ Johnson of the Katz had a monster week with 5 scores and 399 total yards - he'll be another prominent name in week 17 as Nashville try to steal the last playoff spot from the Blaze. Damian Harrell arguably edged the battle of the great WRs in the Monday night game with 4 scores, to Bobby Sippio's 3, but Chicago won.

  28. Johnnie Balous, Grand Rapids

A fine week for the FBs, with many of the usual suspects landing multi-TD games. Torrance Marshall came back to life with a vengeance - 3 scores on 3 carries - that's getting it done.Lonnie Ford continues his steady but impressive season adding another 2 rushing TDs to his total. Dan Alexander matched the feat with another 2 notches on his record breaking (redefining?) season. Marlon Moye-Moore was the last of the big boys to run in a deuce, continuing his own very tidy season.

Jermaine Jones was the monster of the week with a pair of interceptions returned for scores. DeJuan Alfonzo was another DB to go very big, with 8 tackles, an interception and 2 rushing TDs. Jeremy Unertl was another Rush DB with good stats: 9 tackles, a pick and 4 pass breakups. Rookie Anthony Floyd had a fine game for the VooDoo hauling down 9 tackles. The entire secondary for the Storm had good games: Traco Rachel, Alex Wallace and Jeroid Johnson all contributed significantly. Good new for Tampa Bay heading into the post-season.

  1. A. J. Haglund, San Jose
  2. Todd Sievers, Dallas
  3. Jason Ball, Colorado
  4. Brian Gowins, Grand Rapids
  5. Mark Lewis, Austin
  6. Steve Videtich, Utah
  7. Gary Kral, Kansas City
  8. Dan Frantz, Chicago
  9. Remy Hamilton, Los Angeles
  10. Carlos Martinez, Georgia
  11. Steve Azar, Las Vegas
  12. Jay Taylor, Orlando
  13. Todd France, Philadelphia
  14. Jonathan Ruffin, New Orleans
  15. Carter Warley, New York
  16. Seth Marler, Tampa Bay
  17. Peter Martinez, Columbus
  18. Jason Witczak, Nashville

Good week for Dan Frantz with 9/9 extra points and 1/1 field goals under the bright Monday night lights. Jonathan Ruffin lost some of his gloss with some wayward kicking in the win over the Wranglers, for whom Mark Lewis was also a little off-color. Todd Sievers was almost perfect for the Rados - who gave him lots of action. Carter Warley's value has sunk like a stone with Aaron Garcia's new injury, he was only ½ on extra points and does not look likely to be much use to you in week 17 either.
