2007 Player Rankings for Week 5

by Simon McGrother
March 28, 2007

Week 4 saw some early season myths debunked and other hunches confirmed. The Soul may very well be the real deal, and the Crush have got some serious problems. The Avenger's D is going to cause trouble wherever they go. The Force moved to 4-0 with a big win over the SaberCats, who are better than their 1-2 record. The Rattlers finally earned a win, and if their D can reproduce the form that held the Gladiators to 41 points they may yet figure in the post-season.

  1. Chris Greisen, Georgia
  2. Joe Germaine, Utah
  3. Clint Dolezel, Dallas
  4. Sherdrick Bonner, Arizona
  5. Tony Graziani, Philadelphia
  6. Andy Kelly, New Orleans
  7. Mark Grieb, San Jose
  8. John Dutton, Colorado
  9. Shane Stafford, Orlando
  10. Sonnie Cumbie, Los Angeles
  11. Matt D'Orazio, Chicago
  12. Raymond Philyaw, Kansas City
  13. Jeff Smoker, Nashville
  14. Shaun King, Las Vegas
  15. Adrian McPherson, Austin

  18. Stoney Case, Tampa Bay
  19. Micheal Bishop, Grand Rapids (BYE)
  20. Chad Salisbury, Grand Rapids(BYE)
  21. Clint Stoerner, Nashville

Tony Graziani was absolutely lights-out (312 yds, 9TDs) against the Crush. After a slow start he came to life in the 2nd quarter and with a well balanced receiving corps, he looks set to be one of the marquee QBs of the season. Joe Germaine continues to be outstanding (268yds, 8TDs) for the ultra-offensive Blaze. He leads the league in yardage and is in the top 4 in every category. The Blaze's porous defense may yet prove to be their Achilles heel, but they are mighty fun to watch. Shaun King was one of the big disappointments of the week, matching up against the 0-3 Rattlers who'd conceded more points than any other team he threw only 4TDs and 3 interceptions. I suggested last week that a trip to Austin was too stiff a test for a young QB, however Jeff Smoker had a tremendous game (280 yds, 6TDs) leading the Katz to a hard fought victory. He is rapidly becoming a serious contender for a regular fantasy start. Matt Sauk and John Kaleo are shown the street and the door, respectively. Michael Bishop and Stoney Case take over, and if they are available they might be worth picking up if QB is a problem position for you.

  1. Siaha Burley, Utah
  2. Bobby Sippio, Chicago
  3. Ben Nelson, San Jose
  4. Damien Harrell, Colorado
  5. Marcus Nash, Dallas

  12. Jeremiah Pope, Arizona
  13. Lenzie Jackson, Los Angeles

  15. Randy Gatewood, Arizona (IR)
  16. James Roe, San Jose
  17. Damian Groce, Columbus

  20. Charles Pauley, Philadelphia
  21. Rodney Wright, San Jose

  23. Kenny Henderson, New Orleans

  25. Kevin Nickerson, Austin

  52. Rob Turner, Los Angeles
  53. Otis Amey, Austin

  62. Jerome Riley, Grand Rapids (BYE)
  63. Marcus Knight, Columbus
  64. Curtis Fagan, Arizona
  65. Andrae Thurman, Dallas
  66. Ahmad Merritt, Chicago

Will Pettis was the biggest star of the week, adding a rushing and return TD to his 5 receiving TDs. When Nash is back he'll have to share receptions but has proven that he can be a stat-busting receiver. Tyronne Jones grabbed 5 TDs for the disappointing VooDoo and seems to be becoming the favored receiver. Siaha Burley got his requisite 4 TDs as did the previously quiet James Roe. Chris Pauley did for Philly what Will Pettis did for Dallas - stepped up big when the #1 receiver (Sean Scott) takes a day off. He scored 4 TDs and looked very good. An encouraging performance from the Dragons sees their receivers move up the list.

  1. Dan Alexander, Nashville
  2. Josh White, Dallas
  3. Rodney Filer, Tampa Bay (IR)
  4. Bo Kelly, Arizona
  5. Robert Thomas, Colorado
  6. Ja'Mar Toombs, New York
  7. Chris Ryan, Grand Rapids (BYE)
  8. Lonnie Ford, Los Angeles
  9. Wes Ours, Philadelphia
  10. Dan Curran, New Orleans
  11. Marlon Moye-Moore, Orlando
  12. Matt Kinsinger, San Jose
  13. Josh Rue, Las Vegas
  14. Dawan Moss, Kansas City
  15. Harold Wells, Columbus
  16. Chad Dukes, Austin
  17. Kevin Nagle, Orlando
  18. Bob McMillen, Chicago
  19. Matt Huebner, Georgia
  20. Kevin Clemens, Utah
  21. Frank Carter, Utah
  22. Byron Douzart, Kansas City
  23. James Lynch, New Orleans
  24. John Peaua, Colorado
  25. Bruce McClure, Georgia

All the upper echelon FBs had solid games with Dan Alexander again the pick of the bunch. Rodney Filer broke an ankle in the 2nd quarter and was placed on IR, saving owners the need to keep an eye on the injury report or (just as reliably) consult the chicken entrails. Robert Thomas and Ja'mar Toombs continued to impress each bagging a brace.

  1. Rashad Floyd, Colorado
  2. Clevan Thomas, San Jose
  3. Chris D. Brown, New Orleans
  4. Hamin Milligan, Georgia
  5. Nate Coggins, Austin
  6. Eddie Moten, Philadelphia
  7. Lin-J Shell, Orlando
  8. Jeroid Johnson, Tampa Bay
  9. Brandon Hefflin, Columbus
  10. DeJuan Alfonzo, Chicago
  11. Jonathan Ordway, Chicago
  12. Terrance Joseph, Utah
  13. Damen Wheeler, Los Angeles

  16. Willie Gary, Georgia
  17. Jermaine Jones, Dallas
  18. DaShane Dennis, Kansas City
  19. Keyuo Craver, Arizona
  20. Monty Montgomery, Nashville
  21. Jeremy Unertl, Chicago
  22. Damon Mason, Austin
  23. Arnold Parker, Los Angeles
  24. Alex Wallace, New Orleans
  25. Chris Brown, Dallas
  26. Mike Brown, Philadelphia
  27. Chris Pointer, Orlando
  28. Clarence Lawson, Utah
  29. Omaar Smith, San Jose
  30. David Crocker, Georgia
  31. Delvin Hughley, Colorado
  32. Denario Smalls, Kansas City
  33. Reggie Doster, Grand Rapids (BYE)
  34. Chuck Wesley, Grand Rapids (IR, BYE)
  35. Kenny McEntyre, Kansas City
  36. Ahmad Hawkins, Nashville
  37. Antuan Simmons, Los Angeles
  38. Thal Woods, Nashville
  39. William Haith, New Orleans
  40. Earthwind Moreland, Las Vegas
  41. Johnnie Harris, Philadelphia
  42. Calvin Spears, New Orleans
  43. Chris Angel, New York
  44. Ryan Bowers, Orlando
  45. Ben Kelly, Grand Rapids (BYE)
  46. Travis Coleman, Kansas City
  47. Erin Damond, Arizona
  48. B.J. Barre, Columbus
  49. D.J. Johnson, Las Vegas
  50. Eric Joyce, Nashville

Chris D. Brown was huge again for the VooDoo, and might well be the most valuable DB in the league. Eddie Moten was tremendous in the Soul's excellent win over the Crush - even his fine stats do not do him justice. Also a big week for Arnold Parker and Damen Wheeler of LA, who combined for 19.5 tackles and 3 picks (all Wheeler's) stifling the VooDoo. Ahmad Hawkins had a 3 interception day for Nashville.

  1. Mark Lewis, Austin
  2. Steve Videtich, Utah
  3. Brian Gowins, Grand Rapids (BYE)
  4. Todd Sievers, Dallas
  5. Steve Azar, Las Vegas
  6. A. J. Haglund, San Jose
  7. Todd France, Philadelphia
  8. Gary Kral, Arizona
  9. Eric Houle, New Orleans
  10. Remy Hamilton, Los Angeles
  11. Jason Ball, Colorado
  12. Dan Frantz, Chicago
  13. Peter Martinez, Columbus
  14. Jason Witczak, Nashville
  15. Jay Taylor, Orlando
  16. Xavier Beitia, Georgia
  17. Matt Leach, Tampa Bay
  18. Clay Rush, Kansas City
  19. Carter Warley, New York

Todd Sievers is perfect kicking for Dallas, must be a shock to the system after Dustin Bell's efforts. Xavier Beitia kicked well for Georgia but will lose his job when Keith Gispert returns. Remy Hamilton and Peter Martinez have had disappointing seasons so far, but you can't dare bench them. San Jose's A. J. Haglund has the best percentages of the kickers who have played the whole season.
