2007 Player Rankings for Week 4
by Simon McGrother March 21, 2007
Week 3 was the week of the rush. Several players had their biggest ever haul of rushing TDs. Rule changes have made it easier to bring in a fullback for short yardage - and coaches are beginning to use this to good effect. Could lower the value of QBs (see Clint Dolezel's week 3 figures), who'll get a few less rushing and a few less passing scores, so bear that in mind if someone is offering you a trade.

Shaun King immediately suffered vertigo after moving up the list having a rotten day against the VooDoo and sees his star dim, just a little. Adrian McPherson is going to have to stop throwing interceptions, or he (and the Wranglers) will continue to slide. Andy Kelly has impressed, and with a visit from the Avengers should continue to do so. Jeff Smoker had a very accomplished start for the Katz, replacing Stoerner, but will have a tough test on the road in Austin in week 4. Nevertheless, if he is still on the wire, grab him now. John Dutton finally got going, but scoring against the Rattlers is no great challenge. We'll want to see him perform to the same level against tougher defenses before our confidence is restored. A trip to Philly should be a good test. |

Siaha Burley came back with 150 yds and 3 scores, so he stays where he belongs - atop the heap. His return spells downward motion for his teammates. Damien Harrell flexed his muscles at last and bounces back up the list. We're still concerned about the Colorado offense and it will be interesting to see what they can do at Philly in week 4. Owners of Dallas receivers may have been troubled by the 5 rushing TDs, but I expect balance to return to the Desperados against Orlando. Big day for Jeremiah Pope of the Rattlers sees him climb the rankings and Randy Gatewood slip a little. Another big day for Charles Frederick of Kansas City - my personal choice for fantasy stud of the year. He is 8th in the league in receiving and 4th in rushing. He's on bye in week 4, but should come back refreshed. Jimmy Fryzel's hamstring injury boosts both Javarus Dudley and DeAndrew Rubin - and kudos to the Preds for beating a tough Austin team minus their star receiver - perhaps the reversal at the hands of LA was a one-off. |

Huge weeks for Dan Alexander, Rodney Filer and Josh White. Had a single full back scored 4 or more TDs in a game we could view him as a flash in a pan aberration, but 3 of them in a single week suggest a paradigm shift for the whole league. Rushing had been the domain of fleet-footed QBs with fullbacks called on only sporadically. It might be a good time to pick up a solid back up in the FB position - could have some tradability if nothing else. Honorable mentions to Wes Ours, Robert Thomas and Ja'mar Toombs all of whom scored 2 rushing TDs - in any other week a significant achievement for a FB. |

Jermaine Jones managed a pair of picks against KC. Lin-J Shell was again involved in everything for the Predators - while Austin may not have the most impressive offense, holding them to 30 points is quite an achievement. Chris D. Brown, defensive star for the VooDoo even managed to return a kick for a TD. Jonathan Ordway returned a kick for a TD for the second week in a row, while Earthwind Moreland and Willie Gary each take a step up based on their double-digit tackle performances.

Mark Lewis remains the top kicker but Todd Sievers, now with Dallas, should start to challenge finishing off the Desperado scoring drives. Todd France now has 18/19 extra points, which is very impressive, but has yet to attempt a FG. You really want your fantasy kicker to be chipping them in from distance too. |
