2007 Player Rankings for Week 16

by Simon McGrother
June 13, 2007

Cracking games in week 15 including record breaking New Orleans-Dallas matchup which featured everything that there is to love about the AFL. The Desperados have the best record in Arena, but the VooDoo exposed the fault-line that has run through their entire season and will probably prevent them from turning regular season dominance into an ArenaBowl (again). Georgia went to town on much improved Austin - who (almost) gave as good as they got. Tampa Bay, who were my favorite punchline for half the season confirmed their place in the post-season after an outstanding run of form orchestrated by Brett Dietz. Just in time for the playoffs Bobby Sippio is back and the Rush's chances of repeating go from highly questionable to very good indeed, particularly as several bit part players earned their spurs in his absence.

  1. Chris Griesen, Georgia
  2. Clint Dolezel, Dallas
  3. Mark Grieb, San Jose
  4. John Dutton, Colorado
  5. Matt D'Orazio, Chicago
  6. Brett Dietz, Tampa Bay
  7. Joe Germaine, Utah (BYE)
  8. Shane Stafford, Orlando
  9. Raymond Philyaw, Kansas City
  10. Steve Bellisari, New Orleans

  21. Matt Nagy, Columbus
  22. Jeff Smoker, Nashville
  23. Andy Kelly, New Orleans
  24. Brian Jones, Las Vegas
  25. Juston Wood, Philadelphia

Amazing week for Clint Dolezel and Steve Bellisari who combined for a preposterous 22 TDs and more than 800 yards. Clint might get some rest-time on the bench in the last 2 weeks of the season, but I suspect he won't, Steve is a rising star and will probably play out the season even if Andy Kelly is fit - as the VooDoo look to the future with the playoffs all but out of reach. Bad time for Aaron Garcia to get hurt, as Rohan Davey has proven unable to lead the Dragons to victory on a consistent basis and anything less than a pair of victories will cost them a (barely deserved anyway) playoff spot. Sherdrick Bonner missed the Monday night game apparently to give Chris Sanders some experience for next year and with a bye still to come Sherdrick's value declines precipitously. Chad Salisbury's implosion was confirmed with a benching in favor of Adrian McPherson (you know you are not in high regard when that happens) - but luckily for Chad, Ady did what Ady does - led his team to ignoble defeat. Blistering weeks for Mark Grieb and Chris Greisen as expected. And lastly a shout out to Lang Campbell who again had monster numbers but could do nothing to prevent his team going down against the irresistible Force.

  1. Siaha Burley, Utah (BYE)
  2. Chris Jackson, Georgia
  3. Bobby Sippio, Chicago

  63. Josh Bush, Columbus
  64. Kevin Prentiss, Las Vegas (IR)
  65. Jerome Riley, Grand Rapids (IR)
  66. Marcus Knight, Columbus
  67. Curtis Fagan, Arizona

Larry Brackins is not a name that has been bandied around in this column too much over the season, but his 5TD haul against the Storm is no mean feat. Bobby Sippio roared back with 6 TDs against the woeful Rampage - whilst injuries are never a good thing, Bobby's 5 week hiatus has kept him fresh as a daisy going in to the playoffs. Wendell Williams and Dialleo Burks grabbed the lion's share of the plethora of TDs in Dallas and both Troy Bergeron and Chris Jackson were beasts for the Force against the Wranglers, for whom Derrick Lewis again did more than his fair share. Rob Turner was the Monday night star, making 4TD grabs for the Avenegers.

  1. Dan Alexander, Nashville
  2. Lonnie Ford, Los Angeles
  3. Ja'Mar Toombs, New York
  4. Chris Ryan, Grand Rapids (injury watch)
  5. Harold Wells, Columbus
  6. Torrance Marshall, Tampa Bay
  7. Marlon Moye-Moore, Orlando
  8. Bo Kelly, Arizona
  9. Josh White, Dallas
  10. Brian Johnson, San Jose
  11. Dawan Moss, Kansas City
  12. Robert Thomas, Colorado
  13. Wes Ours, Philadelphia
  14. Kevin Nagle, Orlando
  15. Dan Curran, New Orleans (IR)
  16. Marlion Jackson, Las Vegas
  17. Matt Huebner, Georgia
  18. James Lynch, New Orleans
  19. Bob McMillen, Chicago
  20. Josh Rue, Las Vegas
  21. Kevin Nagle, Orlando
  22. Chris Robinson, Utah (BYE)
  23. Frank Carter, Utah (BYE)
  24. Byron Douzart, Kansas City
  25. Phil Glover, San Jose
  26. John Peaua, Colorado
  27. Bruce McClure, Georgia
  28. Johnnie Balous, Grand Rapids

All hail Dan Alexander who has been the fantasy star of the entire season. Another behemoth week with 5 rushing and 1 receiving TD - quite simply outstanding. Harold Wells is one of the best of the rest and added another pair of TDs to his stats. Another man to break the plane twice was Ja'mar Toombs who might see increasing action with Garcia missing for the rest of the regular season. Chris Ryan added to the Rampage's woes by missing the week 15 game with an abdominal injury, owners beware. Chris Robinson of the Blaze also notched a pair, but now has a bye week, so his fantasy value remains negligible. Torrance Marshall came up empty again and has been a diminishing force since Brett Dietz reintroduced the pass game to Tampa Bay.

  47. Traco Rachal, Tampa Bay
  48. Ryan Bowers, Orlando
  49. Calvin Spears, New Orleans

Travis Coleman of the Brigade nabbed a pair of interceptions in addition to making 7 tackles. The Monday night lights shone brightly on the defensive talents of Eddie Canonico and Keyuo Craver who were both excellent with multiple tackles and an interception each. Chris Pointer of the Katz was heavily involved with 8 tackles. The most impressive recent form amongst DBs probablt belongs to Reggie Doster of the Force, who has been prominent for several games in a row and was superb once more.

  1. A. J. Haglund, San Jose
  2. Todd Sievers, Dallas
  3. Jason Ball, Colorado
  4. Brian Gowins, Grand Rapids
  5. Mark Lewis, Austin
  6. Steve Videtich, Utah (BYE)
  7. Gary Kral, Kansas City
  8. Remy Hamilton, Los Angeles
  9. Carlos Martinez, Georgia
  10. Carter Warley, New York
  11. Dan Frantz, Chicago
  12. Steve Azar, Las Vegas
  13. Jay Taylor, Orlando
  14. Todd France, Philadelphia
  15. Jonathan Ruffin, New Orleans
  16. Seth Marler, Tampa Bay
  17. Peter Martinez, Columbus
  18. Jason Witczak, Nashville

In the kicking world it was a great week for the kickers who play for the great teams, and for those who play for mediocre teams who like to go for it all guns blazing. Jonathan Ruffin was perfect (10/10 xps and 1/1 FG) for the VooDoo, but they came up a point short against the Rados for whom Todd Sievers was almost as good. Carlos Martinez was a little wayward for the Force (7/10 xps) but Georgia easily beat the Wranglers for whom Mark Lewis was absolutely perfect.
