2007 Player Rankings for Week 12
by Simon McGrother May 16, 2007
Week 11 saw the continuing decline of the Utah Blaze. The early season saw them as the western conference's great hope. The west loves to score big, but offense can only take you halfway and none but the SaberCats have shown the defensive toughness to mount any kind of season-long challenge. The Blaze, after starting 5-2 have now lost 4 straight to see their playoff push sputter, most discouragingly their offense has begun to look very ordinary. The Wranglers', Gladiators' and VooDoo's seasons continue to head in reverse, whilst the Dragons, Crush and Storm are headed in the right direction.

Joe Germaine continues to lead the league in TD passes, but slips in the rankings as the Blaze continue to implode. Moving in the opposite direction is Aaron Garcia who has been very good since his return and with an improving team, gaining confidence and a relatively fresh arm, could be a force in the last third of the season. Another QB who's star is on the rise is John Dutton - I have been brutal about his form this season, but the Crush are beginning to click a little and score more freely, in part because of an apparent return to form of Damian Harrell. Another nice performance by Tampa Bay's Brett Dietz, who has steadied the Storm very well and may yet lead them to an unlikely playoff spot. |

James Roe and Ben Nelson owners were probably looking forward to a few weeks of Rodney Wright on injured reserve - not many receivers have to put up with a 3rd choice of Wright's quality. Unfortunately, 4th choice Jason Geathers has proved even more effective in leaching fantasy points from the big duo - he enters our ranking and won't drop out even when Rodney is fit again. Kevin Swayne returned for the Dragons and hauled in 4 TDs from Aaron Garcia. With both of these guys back, New York really might have an offensive unit hot enough to carry them to the playoffs, and more pertinently to be big in the fantasy world. Another receiver who's stepped into the breach is Trandon Harvey - the Rattlers have always relied very heavily on Randy Gatewood, but in his absence Harvey has been very solid, with 4 scores this week. Keep an eye on Rob Mager of the Rush - he has looked very good two weeks in a row, and helped to prove that the Rush can be competitive even if Bobby Sippio is hurt. Biggest hitter of the week was Timon Marshall with 5 scores and acres of return yards. |

A quiet day on the rushing front, with only Chris Ryan and Josh White scoring more than 1 rushing TD. No fireworks from Dan Alexander or Torrance Marshall, but I guess the pace they were setting could not last forever. Harold Wells had one of his best days with 1 rushing TD and 2 receiving scores. Otherwise it is "as you were" in the FB rankings. |

Rayshun Reed had a couple of picks for the Predators in their win over the VooDoo. BJ Barre of the Destroyers played both sides of the ball to great effect, with 8 tackles, one rushing TD and one receiving score. DeJuan Alfonzo had a solid 6 tackles, but supplemented this by receiving for a monster 88 yds and 3 TDs. Jermaine Jones had 10 tackles in the 'Rado's ArenaBowl preview win over the Rush. San Jose's defense continues to rule the roost, Clevan Thomas and Omarr Smith both scored TDs on interception returns, in addition to tackling like fiends.

Jason Ball was the hottest kicker of the week, with 3 decent length FGs in addition to 7/8 xps. He moves up as Mark Lewis sinks further, on the worsening plight of the Austin offense. Steve Azar is suffering the same fate at Las Vegas, where ineptitude plumbs new depths. |
