The Arena Guru's Fantasy Impact

Focus on Charles Frederick (Kansas City Brigade)

Rookie Charles Frederick has been nothing short of amazing in his first season in the AFL. Frederick leads the AFL in points through the first three weeks of 2007. So how exactly is he making such a huge impact? Let's take a look.

The first thing that stands out about this guy is the amount of touches he gets within the offense. If there was a position of RB/WR in the AFL, Frederick would fit the position perfectly. The Brigade has not been afraid to get this kid the ball, whether it be rushing or using him as a wide receiver. As a receiver, Frederick has 20 rushes for 74 yards, six rushing TDs, 25 receptions for 305 yards, and four receiving TDs. All these numbers equal out to 15 touches per game. The one part of his game that separates him from the rest of the receivers in the AFL is his rushing ability. Let's go back to week one where Frederick had 8 carries for 60 yards and 3 TDs. He also had 5 catches for 50 yards. Frederick was just starting to heat up. Week two saw Sir Charles rush five times for 6 yards, but was more involved within the passing game, catching 11 passes for 119 yards and two TDs. Week three was Frederick's best game of the year, rushing the ball seven times for 9 yards and 3 rushing scores. To go along with his rushing stats in week three, he also caught nine passes for 136 yards and 2 receiving TDs. Those stats, let me remind you, are through three weeks and are downright scary.

Alongside Frederick for the Brigade are receivers Sam Simmons and Jerel Myers. This trio has the offense averaging close to 50 points per game. Frederick is clearly the best player on the Brigade as he leads the team in rushing attempts, rushing yards, rushing TDs, receptions, receiving yards, and receiving TDs. If you are a Charles Frederick owner, you have to be salivating at the upcoming schedule. Upcoming opponents include Arizona, Las Vegas, Grand Rapids, NY Dragons, and Los Angeles which all have horrible defenses. As long as Raymond Philyaw is healthy, there is no reason to believe there will be a let down for Frederick. So, what kind of numbers can we expect the rest of the way from Sir Charles?

Looking at Frederick's stats so far, you can clearly see he is getting at least 10 touches per game. If he continues his current pace, Frederick could be staring at 140 - 200 plus touches at the end of the season. At his TD pace, he could see anywhere from 30-40 combined TDs by the end of the year. Again, for a first year player, as long as he can stay healthy and involved in the offense, all of these numbers are possible. I seriously see Frederick continuing his production and flirting with the possibility of being the #1 overall fantasy receiver in the AFL by season's end.
