The Stat Guy's Pickups for Week 10
Brandon Hefflin DS (Columbus)
Week 9 Stat Line: 13.5 tackles, two forced fumbles, one interception
It's amazing that I'm starting the Week 10 Waiver Wire off with a DS, but this guy's performance this past week was RIDICULOUS!! Against the defending AFL champs, Hefflin led the Columbus defense by posting 13.5 tackles, one interception, and two forced fumbles. If that does not scream "Get me onto a Fantasy Football Team and insert me now," I don’t know what will. It's too early to say this guy is legit, but his potential after week 9 is off the charts. He could post some nice tackle numbers in week 10 against a Dallas Desperados team that loves to throw the ball.
Brian Johnson FB (San Jose)
Week 9 Stat Line: 7 rushes, 17 yards, three TD's, six tackles
I’m holding true to form about what I said last week. Any guy who runs for three TD's will be mentioned on my waiver wire. Talk about being confused? How would you like to be FB Phil Glover right now? The guy ran for three TD's last week against Georgia, and in week 9 took a back seat to Brian Johnson. Johnson more than matched Glover's performance with three TD's of his own and led the team with six tackles. San Jose loves to run the ball when they get near the goal line so Johnson's definitely worth a roster spot. Whichever FB starts for San Jose will have at least one score per game.
Cornelius White WR/DB (Chicago)
Week 9 Stat Line: 6 receptions, 82 yards, two TDs
With WR/DB Etu Molden apparently still not 100 percent healthy, Cornelius White took advantage and posted some solid stats. White is a solid pickup, if for no other reason than Molden's inability to stay healthy this year. White has posted 42 receptions, 544 yards, and nine TDs in Molden's absence. Corny posted back to back 20+ TD seasons with Columbus in 2004 and 2005, so the potential to score some points does exist. Depending on how hurt Etu remains throughout the rest of the year, White could have a big finish to the season.
Joe Douglas WR (Las Vegas)
Week 9 Stat Line: three catches, 30 yards, 4 rushes, 13 yards, two TDs
Sure Douglas plays second fiddle to OS Marcus Nash, but if you look at his numbers throughout the season, he's more involved in the offense than you would think. The Gladiators have found a new way to keep Douglas involved lately, allowing him to run in three scores in the past two weeks. And all this coming from a guy who has never had more than two rushing TD's in any of his previous six years. With his recent success on the ground, Douglas should find a way onto your roster.
