Sit 'em and Start 'em for Week 9
Last week we told you to start Clint Dolezel (51 fantasy points), Brian Schmitz (12 FPs) and Antuan Simmons (17 FPs) and advised you to sit Siaha Burley (28 FPs), Corey Fleming (9 FPs) and Marlon Moye-Moore (zero FPs).
This week, we have more player recommendations for you, based on performance, matchup and intuition.

John Fitzgerald - Austin Austin are playing very well, and Mr. Fitzgerald has been putting up respectable numbers, putting up 34 fantasy points in each of the last two weeks, helped in no small part by his own rushing TDs. This week sees the visiting Predators, who keep conceding huge totals. Fitzgerald is a great start in what could be a definitive game for him. |
Other quarterbacks with favorable matchups: Sherdrick Bonner (Arizona) vs Los Angeles, Matt Nagy (Georgia) vs Tampa Bay, Jason Fife (Las Vegas) vs Utah, Nick Browder (New York) vs Kansas City |
Mark Grieb - San Jose Grieb has had a good year and will continue to do so, but San Jose travels to Nashville where the Kats are 4-0, conceding only 35 ppg. San Jose have done poorly on the road, even though they have put up some big numbers. With Stoerner missing, the Kats will really work on keeping this one low scoring, leading to disappointing stats for Grieb. |
Other quarterbacks with unfavorable matchups: Sonny Cumbie (Los Angeles) vs Arizona, Chad Salisbury (Grand Rapids) vs Chicago, Joe Hamilton (Orlando) vs Austin, Tony Graziani (Philadelphia) vs Dallas |
Damian Harrell - Colorado Okay, this isn't that big of a risk, but Harrell is just fantastic, leads the league in TDs, is 2nd in receiving yards and is also wonderful to his mother. What a guy! The Colorado-Columbus matchup has all the hallmarks of a shootout. And if there are points being scored Damien will be on hand to grab some of them for himself. |
Other Offensive Specialists with favorable matchups: Marcus Nash (Las Vegas) vs Utah, Kevin Swayne (New York) vs Kansas City, Darrel Jones (Arizona) vs Los Angeles, CJ Johnson (Chicago) vs Grand Rapids, TT Toliver (Nashville) vs San Jose |
Steve Smith - Philadelphia Nice try Steve. In a desperate attempt to get noticed as an OS, he switches from the Brigade to the Soul. Sadly his first game for the Soul is in Dallas. He might be worth picking up if he’s become a free agent – but leave him on the bench for a week until he reaquaints himself with Philadelphia. |
Other Offensive Specialists with unfavorable matchups: Anthony Hines (Grand Rapids) vs Chicago, Tony Locke (Los Angeles) vs Arizona, Jerel Myers (Kansas City) vs New York |
Mike Horacek - New York NY have been inconsistent, at best, all season. But Horacek has been a rock, hauling in 31 TDs already. He must be licking his chops at the visit of the hapless Kansas City Brigade. A couple of weeks ago, KC were one of the best defensive teams and I would have suggested staying away. But now their D is not a lot better than their O and Horacek will make them pay. |
Other Wide Receivers with favorable matchups: Will Pettis (Dallas) vs Philadelphia, Josh Bush (Grand Rapids) vs Chicago, Derek Lee (Georgia) vs Tampa Bay, Javarus Dudley (Orlando) vs Austin, Kevin Nickerson (Austin) vs Orlando, James Jordan (Kansas City) vs New York |
Lawrence Samuels - Tampa Bay Samuels is in a bit of a downturn, scoring 10, 15 and 24 points in the last three weeks. This is a big game, and Georgia's defense is much better at home than on the road. My take is that Georgia are going to win and Lawrence will leave his owners in tears. |
Other Wide Receivers with unfavorable matchups: Bobby Sippio (Tampa Bay) vs Georgia, Mike Brown (Philadelphia) vs Dallas, David Saunders (Columbus) vs Colorado, Sean Scott (Philadelphia) vs Dallas |
Bo Kelly - Arizona Bo is over his big goose-egg of two weeks ago, scoring in double-digits last week for the 6th time on the year. Bo keeps crossing the goal line, has a decent matchup and is definitely worth a start.
Other Fullbacks with favorable matchups: Robert Thomas (Georgia) vs Tampa Bay, Dan Alexander (Nashville) vs San Jose, Dane Krager (Austin) vs Orlando, Lonnie Ford (Los Angeles) vs Arizona |
Phil Glover - San Jose Before you say anything, Glover's 23-pt outburst last week followed weeks of 9, 10 and 4 points. Consistency is not a FBs strong suit. With the expectation of a low scoring outing from San Jose, give Glover a week off. |
Other Fullbacks with unfavorable matchups: Chad Dukes (Philadelphia) vs Dallas, Marlon Moye-Moore (Orlando) vs Austin, Rodney Filer (Las Vegas) vs Utah |
DeShane Dennis - New York Dennis has been a rock in a shaky New York defense, recording 40 tackles with 5 INTs, returning kicks and missed extra points and INTs for scores. Last week, he added 61 yards receiving and a TD. This week, he gets the mistake prone Brigade and has an excellent chance to score again. |
Other Defensive Specialists with favorable matchups: Rashad Floyd (Colorado) vs Columbus, Mark Ricks (New York) vs Kansas City, Damon Mason (Austin) vs Orlando, Jermaine Jones (Dallas) vs Philadelphia, Jeremy Unertl (Chicago) vs Grand Rapids |
Eddie Moten - Philadelphia Talk about a blow to the ego. Moten has been decent all year, but against the better teams (TB, Orlando, Colorado) he's been almost invisible. Now comes the Desperados, so don't expect much from Eddie. |
Other Defensive Specialists with unfavorable matchups: Denario Smalls (Kansas City) vs New York, Khalil Carter (Orlando) vs Austin, Thal Woods (Utah) vs Las Vegas |
Gary Kral - Arizona Kral has been kicking very well lately, with 15 and 14 points in his last two outings with the resurgent Rattlers offense. With Western Division foe Los Angeles in town, the scoreboard will get used early and often. |
Other Kickers with favorable matchups: Carlos Martinez (Dallas) vs Philadephia, Remy Hamilton (Los Angeles) vs Arizona, Bill Gramatica (Tampa Bay) vs Georgia, Jesse Obert (New York) vs Kansas City |
Jay Taylor - Orlando The one time Kicker of the Year will find rough sledding versus Austin. Taylor has been up and down this year and I expect one of those low weeks. |
Other Kickers with unfavorable matchups: Steve Videtich (Utah) vs Las Vegas, Clay Rush (Colorado) vs Columbus, Jason Witczak (Nashville) vs San Jose |
